Why Choose Kids Down Jackets?

Kids down jackets are made of nylon covered fleece. Many of these lightweight jackets also have a chin guard and roomy pockets. Whether for boys or girls, kids' down jacket is loved by children because they are lightweight; yet, they provide very good warmth.

School age kids hate heavy wool jackets that make them feel tied down by the weight. When they put on a down jacket, the freedom of movement and the insulation from the elements make them willing to keep wearing these jackets when they handout with friends out of doors.

The big down jackets also win for their look, because kids know that when worn, it is light as a feather. These are made for active boys and girls to wear to school, social activities and to play. The jackets come in a variety of colors and quality of materials.

Consider Quality of Kids' Down Jackets

The more expensive the jacket, the better the quality of nylon and inner fleece lining. Prices for a kids down jacket can range from $80 and less or more depending on the retailer that you are purchasing the jacket from.

Cheap kids jackets are not necessarily as good as the more expensive counterparts. Features to consider when buying a down jacket is whether it can be washed or has to be dry cleaned. If you wash a down jacket, you might destroy it as the lining that is layered between the nylon jacket shreds and worse yet could smell like unprocessed sponges.

The bulky look of down jackets is what delights kids and the total absolute warmth that the jacket produces when holding in their body's heat while outdoors. But, that bulk is what should be part of the buyer's consideration in deciding how much to spend.

Down jackets for kids are tough but parents should keep in mind that all jackets need to be kept fresh. A jacket bought at Kmart's for $20 may not be as long wearing as the one bought online for $89 or more at local department stores. Buying a jacket for long term wear, at least for one winter season, should be approached practically as the child will probably outgrow the jacket the following year.

For that reason, never buy a down kids jacket in a size bigger than the kid's best fit. The jacket will have to be worn when bought and obviously kept clean. You may not want your kid to wear the cleaned version of the cheap jacket that you bought and your kid will not be as happy with an oversized bulky jacket that doesn't fit properly. As with all kid's clothing, they are meant to be worn for the child when they are purchased and hopefully to be out grown.
